A major concern of this project is to support via interdisciplinary collaboration and introduction of knowhow and methods of the natural sciences, the systematic study of the archaeological materials of Ammaia, and further develop methods of analysis and treatment of the excavation and prospection materials. The main priority fields of study include: Roman building stone and other stone artefacts, Roman mortars, mosaics and mural paintings and Roman glasses. This is a collaboration of the universities of Ghent and Evora (Hercules centre, Department of geosciences).
The laboratory in Ammaia is fully equipped for conservation and analysis of a wide range of materials
